Pokemon Types
The Pokemon franchise takes place in a universe in which humans live with creatures known as Pokemon, a very large variety of species with special powers. The powers these creatures have fall into different elemental types, each having its own weaknesses, strengths, and stats. At its 1996 release with Pokemon Red and Pokemon Blue, there were 15 types available, those being: Bug, Dragon, Electric, Fighting, Flying, Ghost, Grass, Ground, Ice, Poison, Psychic, Rock, Water, and Normal. Later in the series 3 more types would be added: Dark, Steel, and Fairy.
Types are not all made equal however. Though there are 15 types in the original Red and Blue games, there are 33 Poison and Water type Pokemon. Comparetively, there are only 3 Ghost and Dragon types in Red and Blue, almost appearing as an afterthought. Today, with a Pokemon roster of over 1,000+, the numbers have evened out slightly, but Water types still dominate the scene with a total 159 Pokemon! Wow! While the type with the lowest amount comes to Ice Type, with only 58 Pokemon.
Below are the 15 Pokemon types and their corresponding 151 Pokemon from Pokemon Red and Pokemon Blue.
