Here you will find general Pokemon history, information on the game and mechanics of Pokemon Red (1996) and Pokemon Blue (1996), information on the different types of Pokemon, and Pokemon's theme song.
Pokemon (also originally known as Pocket Monsters) is a Japanese media franchise consisting of video games, animated and live-action movies, animated TV series and shorts, a trading card game, mobile apps, hundreds of merchandise lines, and more. Starting as a pair of role-playing games developed in 1995 by gaming company (formerly gaming magazine company) Gamefreak, the games became sleeper hits, soon spreading to the rest of the world from 1998 to 2000 to unprecendented global success.
Ownership of the Pokemon franchise is now spread equally between three companies: the portion responsible for the creation of the video games, GameFreak; the portion majorly responsible for its' vast merchandise line and trading card game, Creatures Inc.; and Nintendo, the sole distributor and publisher of the video games GameFreak produces. The three also established The Pokemon Company, which majorly handles Pokemon's marketing and licenses. (The images used in this website are sourced from them!)
Today, Pokemon is estimated to be the world's highest grossing media franchise, after the so-called "Pokemania" craze that swept the world from 1998-2001, becoming a lasting fixture in pop culture and enchanting players of all ages to this day.
